IDC report places domestic company ahead of
MNCs in commercial PCs
New
Delhi, November 22, 2003: HCL Infosystems, India's premier information enabling
and integration company, maintained its number one position in the total desktop
PC market for the period of Jan - September 2003. According to the recent IDC
report, HCL leads the market by shipping 160, 295 units, with a market share of
24.6 per cent of the total branded desktop PC market. In the same period, HCL
tops the tally with the market with share of 10.5 percent in the commercial market
segment.
Mr. George Paul, Vice President - Marketing, HCL Infosystems Limited, said, "We
have been growing steadily in the desktop PC segment, thanks to our inherent strengths
of unmatched reach, service support and a competitive price point. It will be
our endeavor to implement an aggressive marketing strategy not just to maintain
the number one position in the segment, but to grow further."
HCL
shipped 50,470 PC units during the period of July - September 2003, which is significantly
higher than its nearest MNC competitor. With this performance, HCL leads with
an impressive market share of over 11.3 per cent in the commercial PC market.
This is a growth of 79.9 per cent over the third quarter of 2002. In the consumer
PC market, HCL registered a whopping growth of 107.6 percent over third quarter
in 2002.
"It
is high time the Indian IT prowess is given its due recognition in the industry.
The reports from industry experts like IDC affirm the vast potential we have to
spread the power of computing across the length and breadth of the country,"
concluded Mr. Paul.
The
performance and impressive growth of HCL is attributed to the technological innovations
introduced by the domestic IT majors in its PCs, apart from other factors. HCL

Indian brand to do so. The PC has been specially developed by HCL Insys, coupling
with the newly designed interface of Microsoft Windows XP media center edition,
to completely revolutionize digital entertainment in India.
On
the enterprise business front, recently bagged orders include those from the Canara
Bank, Asian Paints, Andhra Bank, South Central Railways, Punjab National Bank,
BSNL (Patiala), ITC (Kolkata) and Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd
(AMTRON), to name a few. The Infostructure business saw several networking and
security orders from large corporates, PSUs, Banks, and Railways. The Company
was awarded with ISO 9001:2000 certification for consultancy, implementation,
support, audit and management services for its Infostructure services.
The
launch of the EzeeBee PC for below Rs 20,000 has re-defined the price points in
