Gartner, IDC reports place domestic company ahead of MNCs
HCL Infosystems to sustain number position in the Commercial PC segment
New Delhi, June 17, 2003 -- HCL Infosystems, India's premier information enabling and integration company, surged ahead in the last quarter when Gartner and IDC surveys placed the Indian company
ahead of MNCs in the commercial PC segment. According to a recent IDC report,
HCL shipped 46,121 commercial PC units during the Jan-Mar 03 quarter, which is
significantly higher than its nearest MNC competitor. With this performance, HCL
has garnered an impressive market share of over 10 per cent, and has scored a
growth of 52.5 per cent over sales registered in the previous quarter.
The market for Total Desktop PC units stood at 612591 units, of which about 72% were commercial
PCs & about 28% were consumer PCs. In the Total Desktop PCs, HCL led the tally
with a market share of 8.9% (a growth of 41.7% over last quarter) and the nearest
MNC competitor had a market share of 7.6% (a growth of 7.3% over last quarter).
Mr George Paul, Vice President - Marketing, HCL Infosystems Limited, said, "It is a
matter of great pride for us that the expertise of an Indian company is recognised
and given preference over multi national companies. Our progress in the segment
has been steady and we are setting in place an aggressive marketing strategy to
sustain the numero uno position in the segment.
The performance and impressive growth of HCL is attributed to the technological innovations
introduced by the domestic IT major in its PCs, apart from other factors. Recently,
HCL Insys introduced Intel 865G chipset in its PCs ahead of competition. This
chipset, yet another first in the industry from HCL Insys, will enable users to
realise the full potential of hyper-threading (HT) technology by synchronizing
the performance of the processor, the motherboard and the memory. This break through
technology was introduced in HCL Insys' enterprise PC range Infiniti and consumer
PCs Beanstalk. It is noteworthy that in the consumer PC shipments, HCL Insys scored
a marginal growth over sales in the previous quarter, even as competition registered
a decline.
"As part of our strategy to sustain the number one slot,
we plan to introduce new products that have been designed bearing the customer
needs in mind. We hold numerous user meets across the country every year to get
customer feedback and these new launches are a result of this painstaking, yet
rewarding exercise," added Mr Paul.
The company recently launched an all-new Infiniti Pro BL series Desktop with Intel
865G chipset. The key features of this PC include Front Side Bus with support
for 800 MHz; HT-supported processors including Pentium 4 @ 3.0 GHz Processor with
800 MHz FSB and; Memory Support for DDR 400 / 333 RAM with maximum memory supported
being 4 GB; Hard Disk Drive supporting Serial ATA 150 MB/sec and Parallel ATA
100 MB/sec based IDE hard disk drive; Intel Extreme Graphics 2 delivering over
2x the performance compared to earlier graphics; 3 PCI, 1 AGP slots; I/O Ports;
Onboard 10/100 Mbps LAN NIC; and Onboard Audio with six channel sound.
This latest range of Infiniti Desktop will bring a host of benefits to customers that
includes a Stable Platform that supports platform longevity for fastest Intel
Pentium Processors with 800 MHz FSB; delivers increased system responsiveness
and performance through Hyper Threading (that allows users to run multiple applications
simultaneously) and Flexible memory technology allows a spectrum of DDR RAM usage
from highest performance to more cost effective system. Other key benefits include
improved performance with faster Pentium 4 Processor, Memory Bandwidth, upgradability
to latest graphics cards and connectivity. In addition, it will also bring enhanced
scalability and compatibility to consumers.
It is high time the Indian IT prowess is given its due recognition in the industry.
The reports from industry experts like Gartner and IDC affirm the vast potential
we have to taken on the best-of-breed international competition. Our objective
will be to see HCL sustain this number one position for times to come and registered
sustained growth," concluded Mr Paul.
