Bank trade unions allow computerisation in banks . However , a computer can only
run one application such as Savings Bank, Current account , Loans etc.
- HCL sets up core team to develop the required software - ALPM ( Advanced Ledger
Posting Machines ) . The team uses reusable code to reduce development efforts
and produce more reliable code . ALPM becomes the largest selling software product
in Indian banks - HCL designs and launches Unix- based computers and
IBM PC clones - HCL promotes 3rd party PC applications nationally |

| - Zonal offices of banks and general insurance
companies adopt computerization - Purchase specifications demand the
availability of RDBMS products on the supplied solution (Unify, Oracle). HCL arranges
for such products to be ported to its platform. - HCL assists customers
